Born in 1972, I was the baby of the family. I had one older brother and one older sister. My Mom and Dad both loved to draw and paint ceramics so it was only natural that I would start by following them. I still have the very first ceramic I ever painted. It is two little kittens. I was only about 7 or 8 but I remember how much fun it was to paint my very own ceramic. As time went on, I started painting more and more and when I got a little older, I started drawing by copying pictures out of the Sunday Funny Pages! By the time I was 18, I was drawing more difficult things likes Dragons and Unicorns. After starting my own family, I went back to the ceramics and painted a lot of indian pieces. After a few years of painting them, I decided I wanted to paint something different. I wanted to paint a ceramic of a girl in a beautiful dress that I could get really fancy with but I just couldn't find anything in our local ceramic shop. This was the reason I started looking for another shop that was within driving distance to my house and found one that was about an hours drive away. So, my husband took me and when we walked in, the very first thing I seen was a rack of Porcelain Dollmaking Magazines. I was immediately drawn to it. My very first thought was "You can't make a Porcelain Doll". Boy was I ever wrong! Almost 20 yrs later I have made hundreds of them! For the past 8 of them I have been painting the eyes instead of setting them in and it has been a lot of fun learning how. With the age "40" staring me in the face (I will be 40 this Sept), I am eager to go back to my roots and start drawing again. It has been years since I drew anything but I am interested in Manga Art and would like to start drawing Manga Figures. They are so adorable and I find myself drawn to them! My Daughter is the one who introduced me to Manga. She draws all the time and that is her style. I guess I knew she would be artistic too. Unfortunately, my husband isn't artistic at all. He says he can't even draw a straight line.
I have also started my own collection of Ball Jointed Dolls that I cherish very much! I did try sculpting once but discovered almost at once that it was NOT my "cup of tea". I wish I was more skilled at it. Maybe one day I will try again, but for now, I think paper and pencil is right for me! So, here I am. I want to share all these things with you and hope it will inspire others to try!
